Back British Metals Initiative

Who we are

The modern world is built on metals. From the structures that keep our buildings from falling down to the components that keep your smartphone running. And metals matter now more than ever.

The global economy is moving from a fossil fuel intensive world to a materials intensive one.  Now is the moment to place the UK at the heart of the future supply chains of the energy transition, electric vehicles, defence technologies and data and electronics.  This transition is happening now, and Britain has the chance seize this opportunity, with the will and the right approach.

Back British Metals is a cross-metal initiative aimed at creating the practical policy environment for the metals industry to thrive.  It will help make Britain the best place in the world for new and increasing investment in the metals and critical materials industry and associated supply chains.

Supporters of the initiative include:

International Wrought Copper Council (IWCC)
The Aluminium Federation (ALFED)
Cobalt Institute
Cast Metals Federation
Johnson Matthey
