Back British Metals Initiative
Back British Metals is a cross-metal initiative is supported by companies, trade associations and metals industry stakeholders. The initiative aims to engage policy makers and promote the importance of strengthening and expanding the UK’s metals and critical materials industries.
About the Initiative
The modern world is built on metals. From the structures that keep our buildings from falling down to the components that keep your smartphone running. And metals matter now more than ever.
Asks for policy makers
We are asking for a long-term approach and commitment from all political parties which creates the underlying conditions to strengthen and grow investment in the UK’s metals and critical materials industries. This is not about one-off hand outs and subsidies, but building an environment in the UK which develops these industries for decades to come.
Why metals matter
Metals, critical materials and the components based on these are at the heart of the future economy.
Investing in the UK Metals and Critical Materials will
- Strengthen economic growth and investment in the UK
- Create new jobs and help to revitalise communities and regional identities
- Build resilient supply chains and capabilities in the key industries of the future, such as low carbon energy, electric vehicles, electronics and defence
- Ensure the benefits of the Green Energy Transition are maximised for British industry and the UK economy
